Life Verse

“Psalm 119:105. "Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.”

What is your life verse? Do you have one? Is there a scripture that keeps standing the test of time for you? It shows up in those hard spots. It reappears when you need that extra comfort. It’s like a precious warm blanket sewn by your grandmother that you cling to, providing reassurance you will make it through.

For me, I have a few verses that lifted me up in valley seasons. When I reflect on them, it’s a sweet reminder of what I have overcome. But they aren’t my life verse. I call them seasonal verses, even though I still believe them and profess them. My life verse is a bit grittier. It has been with me in my deepest valleys. It shows up over and over and, every time is a “here and now” word. It bolsters my faith, refocuses my vision, and produces hope in my heart.

Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet and light on my path.” The word of God is active, illuminating, and a guidebook. And, when we have a scripture that runs deep, it speaks life into us, clears our vision, and can change the trajectory of our path. I recall when my life verse was first set in motion. I was pouring my heart out to a friend, expressing some of my greatest fears, when she shared a verse that carried her through an uncertain period. Even though I had heard the verse numerous times, it seemed to shout extra loud that day. My life verse is Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you hope and a future.”

We aren’t promised a trouble-free life. But we are promised a God of character who stands on the truth of His Word. He is Good. He is Powerful. He is Present. He is Faithful. For me, different parts of my life verse have stood out in various seasons. I believe that is what makes the word of God so alive… that the same verse can speak over and over to us in unique ways through different times in life.

I would like to challenge you this week. Share your life verse or a scripture you are currently standing on with two or three friends, and ask them to share their verse with you. Then, commit to praying these powerful words over each other. Imagine the impact. The peace. The expansion of faith. The surrendering of fear.

Let’s pray: Lord, we praise you and thank you for giving us abundant life through Your word. I pray as each woman reflects on their own personal life verse this week that it brings peace, healing, restoration, refreshed hope, and encouragement with every struggle they are walking through. May we be reminded that Your word is active, and unwavering and You are faithful to deliver on Your promises. We surrender our own expectations and embrace all that You have for us in Jesus’ name, Amen.
