More of God.

January 14, 2022

I know last year was probably not the easiest. It brought challenges and maybe a tear or two, but it also brought learning opportunities and happy memories. The important thing is that today is a new day, in a new year, and God is with us the way He was yesterday and will be there tomorrow too.

Like me, you probably wrote down or came up with your list of New Year’s resolutions or things that you are hoping and praying for this new year. More love, more success, more health, more opportunities, and more of everything good. And even though wanting more is great, what we need to remember most is to want more of God. More time in His presence, reading His promises, and getting to know Him.

There is a song by Natalie Grant called “More Than Anything”. The chorus says, “Help me want the Healer more than the healing. Help me want the Savior more than the saving. Help me want the Giver more than the giving. Help me want you Jesus more than anything…” Let’s not get so caught up in the day-to-day or in wanting more, but, instead, caught up in the more of God.

Everything that we need to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives is already inside of us. Just like a seed, we have everything we need to grow and bear fruit. But in order for the seed to become the tree, it needs to be grounded (in Jesus), watered (with His Word), and given light (with His truth).

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)

As we check things off our list that we accomplish throughout the year, let’s remember to check our hearts too, and check in with the Holy Spirit daily… He is the best advisor there is. I pray that as we walk along with Jesus throughout the year, in the mountains, and in the valleys, we get to see that our daily growth speaks of the beautiful and powerful name of Jesus.
